War is not only about destruction and wounds that can be seen. Traumatic experiences also leave their mark on the psyche. This is particularly true for children.
Unfortunately, not all children can count on the support of their loved ones in difficult times. Regrettably, the experience of war also, or perhaps even primarily, affects those of them whose homes are care facilities.
A group of such children from Ukraine have been staying at the District Youth Center in Garczyn for about 2 years. The „Via Stella” Credit Union Foundation tried to support them in various ways by funding second breakfasts, donating a car to make it easier to get to classes, or providing Ukrainian language lessons so that the children do not lose their identity.
In order to provide comprehensive assistance, we also organized a series of sessions with psychologists for the children. We recently received a summary of these meetings.
To our great joy, the children showed significant improvement. The sessions for children were prepared mainly using the art therapy method. To put it simply, it involves the children creating works of art and simultaneously talking about the emotions that are expressed in these works.
After a series of several meetings, a change in the children’s behavior was observed. Instead of gloomy and dark works, positive drawings appeared.
The sessions also included meetings with the children’s caregivers so that they could take better care of them.
We are very happy that we could help them in such an important matter.
